Is the new teak
you are using from a sustainable source?
Yes, we only use
‘plantation teak’ in our furniture which is sourced from PT
Perhutani Persero. PT Perhutani Persero has been appointed by the
Indonesian government to manage and control the growth, harvest and
sale
of several species of premium timber, which includes teak. The
process ensures that the number of trees harvested does not exceed
the number replanted.

What is reclaimed teak?
Reclaimed teak is wood that has been recycled / salvaged from
disused buildings, our reclaimed teak is sourced from the purchase or barter of ‘Rumah Joglo’, which are traditional Indonesian houses, or other ancient
teak timbers. These ancient and neglected houses have been standing
between 50 to 200 years. The main frame construction, roof and outer
panels are made from teak and this lumber is carefully recovered for
the fabrication of our unique furniture.

4.
How is your
reclaimed teak processed?
The reclaimed teak is cleaned by hand with a wire brush to remove
the outer weathered oxidized coating or old varnishes and paints.
Nails or other hardware are removed and then it is planed square for
production. Larger holes left by previous fittings, joints or
hardware are filled with chunks of wood with the same grain
orientation. The larger components are then oven dried in our solar
powered kiln to reduce the moisture content. Knowing that we are
using well seasoned wood enables us to dry the wood rapidly to the
ideal level without causing defects. The wood is then re-planed and
sanded leaving us a smooth finish, prior to being crafted and
assembled into new furniture. We overlook minor imperfections and
discolorations as they are perfectly normal and add to the charm of
our unique furniture and this has no effect on the stability of a
finished piece.

5.
Does your reclaimed teak furniture have a rustic look and feel?
Our reclaimed teak furniture is quite smooth to feel and does not
have a very rustic appearance, as we aim to produce modern looking
furniture from environmentally responsible raw materials. Note: if
you do require a more rustic finish this is also possible at no
extra cost; just ask us at the time of ordering.

Do you use man-made boards, veneers or laminates in your
furniture?
When you purchase a piece of
home furniture from IndoRayaExport.com you are purchasing a future
antique. All our furniture is constructed using only solid
teak wood. This includes cabinetry sides, backs and drawers bottoms.
Man-made boards, such as compressed particle board, block-board or
plywood are generally veneered or laminated to give the appearance
of solid wood, and are not used in the construction of our
furniture.

7.
Does your furniture require self assembly?
At IndoRayaExport.com we are not strong believers in self assembly when
it comes to interior furniture, but our dining and console tables,
beds and daybeds and some coffee tables do come with the legs
separately to minimize damage in transit and for ease of handling.
Each leg is secured to an apron or base with one or two strong
bolts, which are hidden from exterior view. On the pieces of
exterior furniture which are indicated as knocked down, these are
provided with all the hardware for easy assembly. In most cases you
only require a regular screwdriver.

How is your home furniture finished?
The finishing process on our home furniture is one of the more
important stages of our production process and we aim to minimize
the use of harmful products. The furniture is first sanded by hand,
then the stain
color which you select is applied. Once dry, two sealing coats of
shellac (French polish) are applied with sanding between
applications. Finally, a wax formula (which is a composition of
natural beeswax and hard carnauba wax) is rubbed onto all surfaces
and polished. This combination of events provides a beautiful yet
durable finish to our furniture. Note: the above process applies to
every side of our furniture items including drawer bottoms, inside
and under cabinets.

I have previously bought teak, unfinished,
which originates from Thailand. Will your furniture be similar in
color?
The teak you bought that originates from Thailand will probably look
slightly different from what you will receive from us, as our teak
originates from Indonesia. This is due to difference in the soil and
climate. The grains in the wood and the natural color will vary
slightly.
