About Our Products
The raw material used to produce our furniture is sourced as follows:

Reclaimed Teak Sourcing
Our ‘reclaimed teak’ furniture is sourced from the purchase or barter of ‘Rumah Joglo’ which are traditional Indonesian houses or other ancient teak timbers. These ancient and neglected houses have been standing between 50 to 200 years. The main frame construction and outer panels are made from teak and this lumber is carefully recovered for the fabrication of our unique furniture.

Reclaimed Teak Preparation
The wood is cleaned by hand with a wire brush to remove the outer weathered, oxidized coating or old varnishes or paints, and nails or other hardware are removed. Then it is planed square for production; larger holes left by previous fittings, joints or hardware are filled with chunks of wood with the same grain orientation. The larger components are then oven dried in our solar powered kiln to reduce the moisture content and to kill any existing termite eggs. Knowing that we are using well seasoned wood enables us to dry the wood rapidly to the ideal level without causing defects. The wood is then re-planed and sanded leaving us a smooth finish, prior to being crafted and assembled into new furniture. We overlook minor imperfections and discolorations as they are perfectly normal and add to the charm of our unique furniture and this has no effect on the stability of a finished piece. Our reclaimed teak furniture does not have a very rustic look as we aim to produce modern furniture from environmentally responsible raw materials.

Reclaimed Teak Construction
Careful consideration is taken into the design and construction of our furniture knowing that all natural hard and soft woods, including teak, continue to absorb and exude moisture according to the humidity of its immediate surroundings. Our furniture construction allows for natural and free wood movement which means that no matter where you are located, our products are suitable and have been built to self adjust.

Reclaimed Teak Assembly

At IndoRayaExport.com, we are not strong believers in self assembly when it comes to interior furniture, but our dining and console tables, beds and daybeds and some coffee tables do come with the legs separately to minimize damage in transit, and for ease of handling. Each leg is secured to an apron or base with one or two strong bolts, which are hidden from exterior view. On the pieces of exterior furniture which are indicated as knocked down, these are provided with all the hardware for easy assembly. In most cases you only require a regular screwdriver.

Reclaimed Teak Interior Finishing
The finishing process is one of the most important stages of our production process and we aim to minimize the use of harmful products. The furniture is first sanded by hand then two sealing coats of French polish are applied with sanding between applications. Then the stain color which you select is applied. Once dry, a wax formula is applied which is a composition of natural beeswax and hard carnauba wax. This combination process provides a beautiful and durable finish to our furniture.

General Information About Our furniture
When you purchase a piece of home furniture from IndoRayaExport.com you are purchasing a future antique. All our furniture is constructed using only solid teak wood. This includes cabinetry sides, backs and drawers bottoms. Man-made boards, such as compressed particle board, block-board or plywood, are not used in the construction of our furniture. These are generally veneered or laminated to give the appearance of solid wood.

Special attention and patience has to be taken when constructing with products using solid wood. At IndoRayaExport.com we use time honored carpentry techniques.  Our furniture is generally secured with glued mortise and tenon joints, which are anchored with dowel pins. Many other joinery methods are used such as edge to edge, lap, dovetail, rabbet, miter, housing and bridle joints as the piece of furniture requires it.

We use only a two part epoxy-resin glue adhesive, which consists of a resin and hardener. This cures to form a very strong bond. Ordinary wood glues reduce the longevity of joints.

Our furniture is all constructed in a way which accommodates this natural movement, so no matter where you are located our furniture will self adjust without defect.

Facts About Teak
Teak (Tectona grandis) has for centuries been known by shipbuilders for its beauty, remarkable texture and its resistance against dry rot and extreme weather conditions. Naturally this wood retains its high oil content that prevents the wood from drying out.

Teak is mainly found in Indonesia, Thailand, Burma and India. Timbers similar to teak have been found in other continents, but not yet has a timber been found that can compete with the extraordinary qualities of teak from these regions. Being a natural repellent to water, as well as upholding its rich oil content, makes it a first choice for outdoor furniture. Fungus, larvae and pests do not infiltrate the heart wood of this timber. Teak can be left outside all year around, surviving even the most extreme weather conditions. "Teak" also refers to its natural characteristic color, a warm honey to yellowish brown. When untreated teak is left outdoors, it will weather gracefully to a silverish dove gray finish, as many people prefer it.
